At the start of World War II, Jane Martin was a daring nurse for the International Red Cross. Over time, as international tensions and war progressed, she became a pilot and a spy. Jane was always willing to venture into dangerous territory to help save American soldiers, earning her a decoration for rescuing two airmen from the wreckage of a downed Douglas Bomber. In the act in which the medal was imposed, she met Drake Stevens (aka Air Man) and both fell in love instantly. Jane became Drake's partner and, thanks to artificial wings designed by her lover, into Air Woman. Both were part of the Crime Smashers and the Battle Squadron.
POWERS & WEAPONS
Jane was a skilled nurse, an ace pilot, a fierce and resourceful fighter, and a proficient handler of firearms (although she rarely did). She knew how to remain calm and collected in extremely dangerous situations and had a knack for getting herself into trouble. Her husband, Drake Stevens, equipped her with a pair of flying wings similar to the ones he used as Air Man.
